The Y Studios design philosophy is simple: we believe in beauty, utility and meaning for everything we design. We want to create simple joys that people will love to use and keep around for a long time to come. Y Studios does not have a design style, nor do we believe in it. We problem solve to create unique ideas that fit a specific purpose. A common element in our work would be simplicity with a twist. The Y Saber reflects that philosophy – simple, purposeful and has visual depth in the details.

Aesthetic Cues | approachable, purposeful, expected silhouette with unexpected surprise details

Y Studios does not have a house style. We approach each design opportunity with unique solutions specific to the requirements of a project rather than impose a certain style to it. In many visuals where you see the Jedi or Sith holding the lightsaber, it is always with both hands. This became an important element to consider for our own Y Saber. The waist in the middle of the hilt naturally segmented the hilt into two equal parts, indicating to the user to hold with two hands. We intentionally made the blade flat instead of a tubular shape so that the circular hilt can blend into the flat plasma blade at the point where they meet.
